The Sand and Stone Garden is different from the Flat Sea Garden because it is walled in. This keeps the observers attention on the garden itself, and not on those things surrounding it. Coarse sand is used to make the garden stable. Coarse granite or quartz rake easily and hold their shape in the wind or rain. Stones located troughout the Sand and Stone Garden portray Famous battles or legendary dragons. Often times there can be a tall stone surrounded by many smaller ones. The tall stone symbolizes Buddha, while the small ones represent accompanying children, young animals, of elf-like creatures. Benches are placed near the garden so that the observer may relax and enjoy its beauty.
